History

The channel was established by Essel Group under the stewardship of Ashish Kaul, VP of Corporate Brand Development and Nitin Vaidya, business head of Smile TV. Along with sitcoms, the channel also broadcast game shows, comedy chat shows, and comedy movies. The channel also acquired various successful globally accepted comic formats as well as Indian formats to generate more revenue.

The channel was mainly launched to compete with rival SAB TV, the only other Indian comedy channel. Presently, with a tough competition in the market and Zee TV being the main focus, Zee Premium has no original (new) shows in its basket. Currently, it only airs reruns of recently ended or continues popular drama series of its sister channel Zee TV along with some television shopping programmes now available on www.blacktvlive.com.
