National final

The Yugoslavian national final to select their entry, was held on 23 January at the TV Zagreb Studios in Zagreb.

There were 18 songs in the finals; TV Zagreb had its own semi-final in December 1961 to choose the 6 songs that it sent to the final. The winning song was chosen by the votes of 3 regional juries. Only a few of the participating songs are known.

The winning entry was "Ne pali svetla u sumrak," performed by Serbian singer Lola Novaković, composed by Jože Privšek and written by Dragutin Britvić.

At Eurovision

Lola Novaković performed 12th on the night of the Contest following Switzerland and preceding United Kingdom. At the close of the voting the song had received 10 points, placing 4th equal in a field of 16 competing countries. She previously came 3rd in the 1961 Yugoslav Final.
