The name Youth Services Bureau (YSB) refers to a large number of unaffiliated non-profit, non-sectarian philanthropic organizations which provide services related to child welfare. No organization of affiliates sharing the name is known to exist, and the majority of such organizations operate at a local level; some are operated privately, while some are government-funded. The first YSBs were established largely in the 1970s.

It was noted in 2011 for having intervened in registering and housing prospective adoptee children after the Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Rockford began to close its centers in 11 northern Illinois counties (in relation to the state's legalization of civil unions for same-sex couples).

    Most YSBs in Maryland - 19 in particular - were founded in 1971 by the state as community-based nonresidential entities and operate under the Maryland Association of Youth Services Bureaus.

  • Two such organizations was founded in 1976 in Cottage Grove, Minnesota and in 1978 in Stillwater MN, with the two organizations merging in 1997. The organization has expanded to Woodbury as well as St. Croix and Pierce counties in Wisconsin, with a service center in Hudson.

  • Ottawa: The Youth Services Bureau of Ottawa was founded in 1960, and is one of the largest and most comprehensive non‑profit agencies serving youth in the community. Over 350 caring professionals work from 20 locations across the city to deliver a vast range of programs and services that support at‑risk youth and their families.
