Background

Released as the third and final single from the Honey album, the track was a moderate commercial success in the UK, but not as successful as the previous single "Know by Now". The single peaked at #38 in the UK for a total of 4 weeks, in late 1994.

The single was Palmer's last top 40 entry on the UK singles chart.

Release

The single was released on 7" vinyl and CD single within the UK only, using the same version as on the album. The song's main b-side was the non-album track "No Control", written by Palmer.

The song's 7" vinyl was released in the UK only, featuring the track and "Simply Irresistible". Two CD versions were released in the UK as part of a 2 part set. The first CD of the set featured the album version of "You Blow Me Away" as the main track, "No Control", an exclusive mix of the main track titled "You Blow Me Away (Karaoke Mix)" and a remixed version of "Know by Now", the latter originally released as the previous single from the Honey album.

The second CD in the 2 part set featured the album version of "You Blow Me Away" as the main track, also including two remixes of the track, "You Blow Me Away (Remix Edit)", remixed by Pino "Pinaxa" Pischetola, and "You Blow Me Away (Alge Mix)", remixed by Chris Lord Alge. Pischetola had previously remixed Palmer's two previous singles, "Know by Now" and "Girl U Want". The CD single included a fourth track, "Change His Ways", taken from the 1988 album Heavy Nova, written by Palmer.

A promotional CD single was also released in the UK, featuring "You Blow Me Away" as the only track.

The singles' artwork remained the same for both parts of the CD set.

"You Blow Me Away" was produced by Palmer and American music producer Stephen Hague.

The song was later on numerous compilations based on Palmer's material, on the 2000 compilation The Essential Collection, the 2000 compilation Premium Gold Collection, the 2007 compilation Platinum, the 2008 compilation Essential and the 2011 compilation Essential.

Promotion

A promotional video was created for the single. Palmer also performed the song at the 1994 German RSH-Gold ceremony, which was broadcast on RTL 2.
