Yew Chung International School of Chongqing (YCIS Chongqing, simplified Chinese: 重庆耀中国际学校; traditional Chinese: 重慶耀中國際學校; pinyin: Chóngqìng Yàozhōng Guójì Xuéxiào) is a co-educational international school located in the Chongqing International School Garden of the city’s New Northern Economic Development Zone.

Origins and history
Established in 2001, YCIS Chongqing is the first international school registered with the Ministry of Education in Chongqing.
YCIS Education Programme
YCIS’s international curriculum is based on the framework and schemes of work from the National Curriculum for England (NCE). It is a research-based curriculum that allows high standards and ease of transition for international students who move from one country to another. YCIS offers International General Certificate of Secondary Education in years 10 and 11. All years 12-13 students study the YCIS Diploma programme, which has at its core the International A and AS Levels curricula, designed by the University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE). Cambridge International A and AS Levels are internationally benchmarked qualifications that are taken in more than 125 countries, providing excellent preparation for university education.
The YCIS Diploma programme, for 16- to 19-year-olds, provides the all-round education, character development, bilingual and bicultural focus, and global perspectives that students need for success. To further facilitate this success, YCIS Chongqing seeks to provide leadership opportunities, community service components, global issues forums, topic papers on global issues in Years 12-13, a YCIS thesis (3,000-4,000 words) in Year 13, extracurricular activities, university preparation and university guidance counselling.
Chinese curriculum
YCIS Chongqing places great emphasis on the acquisition of Chinese language (Putonghua) which is an increasingly important world language. Students study Chinese culture and learn to read, write, and speak in Chinese.
Co-principals and co-teaching models
The integration of Eastern and Western culture is achieved through the Co-Principals and Co-Teaching models. Co-Principals, one Western and one Chinese, serve as partners in the operations and administration of the school. In addition, two fully qualified teachers, one Western and one Chinese, plan lessons and conduct classes where one teacher teaches during classroom time and the other observes and tries to encourage children to participate in discussions to learn more about the content area.
Along with discussions that are guided in class work time teachers are able to survey the room and help children with questions or those who have trouble understanding. Along with a qualified Western and Chinese educators, special education teachers are a resource that provide new ways of learning the same content. This can be accomplished in ECE and public schools.
World Classroom
The World Classroom is a programme which is a practical method of preparing YCIS students to participate effectively in today’s global society. Students from Year 7 to 10 learn outside the classroom by travelling abroad with experienced staff. Projects such as building a new school in Tanzania or re-building homes in Thailand give students meaningful encounters with diverse cultures.
