The Yarowilca Province is the smallest of eleven provinces of the Huánuco Region in Peru. The capital of this province is the city of Chavinillo.

  • Languages

    According to the 2007 census, Quechua was spoken by 61.0% of the population as their first language, while 38.7% spoke Spanish, 0.1% spoke Aymara, 0.0% spoke Asháninka and 0.0% spoke other indigenous languages.

    The province is divided into eight districts, which are:

  • Choras (Choras)
  • Jacas Chico (San Cristóbal de Jacas Chico)

  • Ethnic groups

    The people in the province are mainly indigenous citizens of Quechua descent. Quechua is the language which the majority of the population (60.97%) learnt to speak in childhood, 38.74% of the residents started speaking using the Spanish language (2007 Peru Census).
