As of July 2011, the town has an estimated population of 11,855. The total area is 128.81 km².

Until recently there was also a thing saying Yaotsu was the birthplace of Chiune Sugihara , but it was clear that he was born in Mujiri-gun Kurichi-cho (present Mino City), not Yaotsu by confirmed his family register in the past,
