Worldeka is a collaborative website designed to change the world. It is aimed at helping charities, NGO's, activists and policy members to connect, share resources, communicate with their members and create cross organizational partnerships.

The website went live at 5.00 GMT on 01/20/09, the moment Barack Obama became the 44th President of the United States of America.

The website has been down, throwing an Phusion Passenger (Ruby on Rails deployment) application error, since 2.00 GMT on 07/11/13 - this date may be considerably longer.

Origin of the name

The name Worldeka is derived from Sanskrit and means one world. The name won a T & T award for best brand name of 2008.

History and description

Worldeka was founded by brother sister team Charlie and Sophie Cox. The company is based in London, England but has representatives in the US and Australia as well as in other main cities across the UK. The site has often been described as using social media for social change, much of its interface is akin to a social network with diggable media files, RSS feeds and social interaction, Worldeka themselves use the phrase "a social network with a conscience" The site also offers project management tools and collaborative features enabling charities to work together on specific projects, as well as combine intelligence and resources to aid humanitarian and disaster relief.

Worldeka launched on June 8, 2009 and has a global user base derived from over a hundred countries. Their launch was covered by many international publications such as The Daily Mail and The Australian.

Awards and press

Worldeka branding was designed by Landor Associates and has won numerous design awards including the T & T Award for best moment of creativity and the T & T Award for best named new brand. They are a featured company on the Landor website.

Worldeka was also one of 35 new companies chosen by the UK Government and Digital Mission to be taken over to America and promoted as one of the best new websites created in Britain in 2008.

The founders Charlie and Sophie Cox were also chosen as two of the Future 100. A list detailing the entrepreneurs of the future.

Worldeka's founders were also featured doing an escalator pitch on the first episode of the now hugely popular Techfluff.tv
