History

A brief history of the trust:

  • 1907 The company began its life as General Investors and Trustees Ltd (GIT) investing in a diverse range of assets
  • 1929 Wall Street Crash. GIT avoided the worst, having shifted out of equities and into cash, Treasury bills and British Government Securities
  • 1975 GIT merged with City and Gracechurch Investment Trust
  • 1984 Under the management of F&C GIT was renamed F&C Pacific Investment Trust to reflect a new Asian Pacific investment policy
  • 2005 Witan Investment Services takes on the executive manager role and a multi-manager approach is adopted using Aberdeen and Normura Asset Management UK Ltd as investment managers. The Company’s name is changed to Witan Pacific Investment Trust plc.
  • 2012 The Company replaces Nomura with two new investment managers; Matthews and GaveKal, having three investment managers in total.
  • Operations

    Witan Pacific has assets under management of approximately £215 million and invests in companies operating across the Pan-Asian region, including Japan, China, Australia and India. It employs a multi-manager strategy with three experienced, active Managers employing different approaches. Witan Investment Services acts as executive manager to Witan Pacific and is responsibile for managing and monitoring the outsourced structure of the Company and its relationships with the external managers, and to assist the independent Board of Directors on investment strategy and marketing.
