When she employs Cory as a tracker, the two venture deep into a world ravaged by violence and the elements.

Production

In May 2015, it was announced Chris Pine and Elizabeth Olsen had joined the cast of the film, with Taylor Sheridan directing the film from a screenplay he wrote. By January 2016, Pine dropped out of the film, and was replaced with Jeremy Renner. The project began filming on March 31, 2016 in Park City, Utah, with Jon Bernthal, Graham Greene, Julia Jones and Gil Birmingham added to the cast. Kelsey Asbille joined the cast on April 26, 2016. Nick Cave and Warren Ellis composed the film's score.
Release

The Weinstein Company acquired the distribution rights on May 13, 2016 during the 2016 Cannes Film Festival. In January 2017, it was announced the company would no longer distribute the film. However, the distribution deal was later finalized. It is scheduled to be released on August 4, 2017.
Reception
Critics have described the film as "another humanistic crime drama, though this one has more skill than excitement and Wind River is a thrilling, violent finale to the Hell or High Water and Sicario trilogy" and "Coen brothers noir meets the case of the week". The review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes reported a 82% approval rating with an average rating of 7.5/10 based on 22 reviews. David Ehrlich of IndieWire gave the film a "B": "But if Wind River shares Sheridan’s self-evident weaknesses, it also makes the most of his signature strengths. [...] Wind River may not blow you away, but this bitter, visceral, and almost parodically intense thriller knows what it takes to survive."
