William Dale "Bill" Weidlein (January 11, 1892 – December 26, 1983) was the sixth head football coach for the Fort Hays State University Tigers located in Hays, Kansas and he held that position for six seasons, from 1923 until 1928. His career coaching record at Fort Hays was 19 wins, 25 losses, and 5 ties. This ranks him tenth at Fort Hays in total wins and 12th at Fort Hays in winning percentage.
Personal life
William was born in Peabody, Kansas on January 11, 1892 of parents Emma Belle (Van Dyke) Weidlein (born 1864) and John Valentine Weidlein (born 1863). His uncle, Philip P. Weidlein, was the second Mayor of Peabody, Kansas in 1879. William attended the University of Kansas and graduated in 1914. He was a member of the 108th engineers in France during World War I. He married Ruth Rebecca Benning on December 16, 1917. William died in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on December 26, 1983 then was buried in the Leavenworth National Cemetery.
