Originally from Geelong, Victoria, Schofield attended The Geelong College, and played junior football for Newtown & Chilwell Football Club, Geelong College in the Associated Public Schools of Victoria (APS) and the Geelong Falcons in the TAC Cup, before being drafted by West Coast with the 50th pick overall in the 2006 National Draft. He made his senior debut for the West Coast in round 17 of the 2007 season against the Western Bulldogs at Telstra Dome after a series of impressive performances for Peel Thunder in the West Australian Football League (WAFL). Overall, Schofield has played 154 games for West Coast, kicking 20 goals.
