  • Development

In July 2016 it was announced that Paul Dano would adapt Richard Ford's novel with a script he had co-written with Zoe Kazan, and that neither Dano nor Kazan would act in the film. Dano stated "In Richard’s book I saw myself and many others. I have always wanted to make films – and have always known I would make films about family." The film was to be produced by June Pictures, with president Alex Saks as a producer, as well as by Nine Stories Productions. In September 2016, it was announced that Jake Gyllenhaal and Carey Mulligan would star in the film.

    Filming

Shooting for the film will take place in Montana as well as Oklahoma due to concerns with the winter weather in Montana.

    Release

Producer Alex Saks expressed plans to release the film at a festival, and said that "We will probably secure distribution before the premiere and then we will defer to the distributor for a release date, but hopefully it will release toward the end of 2017."
