WikiJob is a wiki-style website designed for students and graduates looking for career opportunities. WikiJob provides comprehensive insight into many professional areas including city firms, investment banking, consulting, engineering, accountancy and law. Its readership expands beyond this, however, and includes journalists, recruiters, careers services and others.

Contents

The site aims to provide an insight into the graduate recruitment process and working life of employers throughout the United Kingdom. The hybrid job board/social network features information on careers, interviews and assessment days at these firms. Due to the 'wiki' nature of the site, almost every page is open for users to edit, allowing job seekers, recent graduates, students and employers to contribute honest and up to date information.

WikiJob features several of the FTSE100 and Times Top 100 graduate recruiters, including Deustche Bank, Citigroup, Accenture, Deloitte, KPMG,PwC, Linklaters, Freshfields, Credit Suisse, Barclays and the Financial Services Authority (FSA).

History and content

The site was established in 2007 by Edward Mellett and Chris Muktar, both graduates of the University of Manchester. After graduating, Mellett and Muktar went on to work in recruitment and accountancy respectively, before leaving to set up WikiJob.

The site has received attention from national press, industry press, and a graduate careers publication. In September and October 2008, the site was also featured on BBC News 24 and BBC Radio 4's Today programme. In August 2009 the site was again featured on the BBC News Channel as well as the main BBC Ten O'Clock News.

Awards and recognition

Both site founders Edward Mellett and Chris Muktar are members of the Courvoisier Future 500,.

In August 2009 WikiJob was declared to be in The Guardian's Top 100 tech media companies of the year.

In February 2011 WikiJob was awarded the Management Today Business Heroes 'New Kid on the Block' award. The MT Business Heroes awards acknowledge the UK's most innovative small and medium enterprises. Judges praised WikiJob as a 'career site with a difference', noting its combination of job board and social network.

In March 2011 WikiJob was named the winner of The Niche Job Board award at the 2011 Onrec Awards ceremony held in London on March 23. The Niche Job Board Award was one of 18 awards presented at the ceremony, recognising ‘success, growth, innovation, talent and achievements within the Online Recruitment Industry’. The judging panel consisted of experienced CEO’s, owners and Managing Directors of successful businesses, including Ruth Owen, Larry Cucchi, Joe Rogers and Andrew Warburton.

Events

WikiJob holds regular events to offer advice and assistance to graduate job seekers. These include Assessment Centre boot camps and graduate employability debates where job seekers can network and get expert advice on finding work.

They also maintain a stand at major careers fairs such as the London Graduate Fair and the fairs held by the University of London and the University of Manchester.

Discussion board

The messageboard is a key feature of the site, allowing students and graduates to exchange information about interviews they are currently applying for or preparing for.

This board has grown in popularity rapidly since implementation and continues to receive many daily posts from various new as well as long term users. Posts debate interview technique and necessary interview preparation, detail assessment days for graduate employers and discuss the benefits of specific companies compared to others.
