History

Widner Township was named for John Widner, a pioneer settler.

Kixmiller's Store at Freedlandville was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.

According to the 2010 census, the township has a total area of 41.24 square miles (106.8 km2), of which 41.2 square miles (107 km2) (or 99.90%) is land and 0.04 square miles (0.10 km2) (or 0.10%) is water.
