Athletics

Widefield High School competes in the 4-A Pikes Peak Athletic Conference. The Gladiators play their home games for both football and soccer at C.A. Foster Stadium, which is shared with Mesa Ridge High School. Widefield plays their home baseball games down the street from the school at the Widefield Community Center.

Recently Widefield High School has enjoyed much success in football, baseball, basketball, wrestling, and soccer, with football making it to the 2010 state playoffs. The school's district rival is Mesa Ridge High School. The Gladiators also have a rival in nearby Fountain-Fort Carson High School.

In 1970, the Widefield boys' basketball team lost the AAA State Championship game to Cherry Creek. They only lost one game in the regular season, to Harrison, to finish with a 21-2 record overall. They later won the 5A basketball state championship in 1985. On March 15, 2008, the Widefield Gladiators boys' basketball team competed in the 2008 State Boys Basketball Championship game. The team ended up losing 63-59 to the Lincoln Lancers, becoming the state runners-up.

Performing arts

The Widefield High School performing arts program is one of the best in the district. The Chamber Orchestra consistently earns top awards such as 1st place in the Cavalcade Showcase of Music competition, regarded as "one of America’s first-class high school and middle school music competitions" and a spot to perform at the prestigious Colorado Music Educator's Association conference at The Broadmoor. Members from the orchestra always make honor groups around the state, notably the Colorado Springs Honor Orchestra. As of the 2013-2014 school year, Widefield possesses four orchestras with over 130 students, making it the largest orchestra program in the state.

The WHS choirs have performed at the CMEA conference with their Women's Ensemble, and have consistently sent members to various honor choirs such as Adams State, and All State Choirs. In 2011, the Women's Ensemble and Classic Chorale traveled to San Antonio to compete in the Heritage Festivals, and received top honors in their divisions.

The WHS band program is growing under the direction of Eric Colgrove. The Jazz Band placed 3rd at the Calvacade Showcase of Music, and has performed at the Mile High Jazz Festival and the UNC/Greely Jazz Festival.

The Gladiator Marching Band has a history of excellence, and had a notably remarkable year in 2011. At the Southern Regional State Qualifying Competition, the band placed 8th. Then, for the first time in the school's history, the band advanced to the CBA state competition at Hughes Stadium, placing 20th overall in the state. They also received 3rd place at the Pikes Peak March of Champions, held at Wasson High School, for the second straight year. The band was led by drum majors Austin Lopez and Daniel Deutsch. In 2012, the Marching Band placed first in the Elizabeth Friendship Cup and placed 21st in the state. In 2013 the Gladiator Marching Band returned to the CBA State Marching Band Competition at Hughes Stadium, finishing in 14th place. In 2014 the band jumped up to 9th place and moved into the semifinals for the CBA Marching Band Competition.
