In February, 2017, following numerous controversies and party in-fighting, Sinn Féin's national governing body removed the party whip from three County Councillors; Cllr. John Snell, Cllr. Gerry O'Neill, and Cllr. Oliver O'Brien. They now sit as independent members of the Council.
