Why i love white cross vets

History

The origins of White Cross Vets can be traced back to 1937 when Christine Woods established a small veterinary practice in her parent’s living room in Cleasby Road, Menston, Leeds. Shortly after this a small clinic was established in the garden of the house.

In 1939 Mary Dalby joined the clinic which was then renamed Woods & Dalby MsRCVS. In the 1960s a branch clinic was added in Parish Ghyll Road in Ilkley, West Yorkshire. Pam Braithwaite joined and the practice became Woods, Dalby and Braithwaite.

Christine Woods (1973) and Mary Dalby (1977) both died leaving the practices to be operated by Pam Braithwaite and Craig Harrison who joined in 1975. The practice was renamed to Braithwaite & Harrison in 1982.

Expansion

When the practice relocated in 1987 to the White Cross area of Guiseley, Leeds the name was changed to White Cross Vets. Craig Harrison became the sole owner in 1985. In 1995, Craig’s son Tim Harrison joined White Cross Vets as General Manager. In 2001 Tim and Craig Harrison co-founded veterinary firm Vets4Pets alongside Peter Watson, former managing director of Vision Express. In 2005, Tim Harrison joined Banfield, the world’s largest veterinary practice and in 2008 received funding to expand White Cross Vets.

The firm is now 100 per cent privately owned by four executive directors: Tim Harrison, Craig Harrison, Richard Burgin and John Guggenheim. Since 2008, staff numbers at White Cross Vets have risen from 8 to 165 employees and turnover is currently £8.2 million.

Since being founded, White Cross Vets has grown from two to a group of sixteen veterinary practices around the UK. The latest additions to the group are the Upton Rocks area of Widnes practice with a £300,000 investment in the facility and Gateacre area of Liverpool practice with a £250,000 investment.
