Whispurr is a "macro"-blogging website which allows members to send 'Whisps' which are 300 character messages to individuals or groups of people via SMS text message or online messaging. Whisps can be public or private and include the '@' character followed by the user's name e.g. @examplename

Micro-messaging Functions

It is possible to post videos on Whispurr and members are able to follow or block other members. Members can import any RSS feed from any website or blog into Whispurr which will feature on the member's profile. You can currently search conversations in five languages; English, Turkish, Italian, French and Spanish.

Future features

At the time of this article (9 March 2010) Whispurr allows users to send 300 character SMS messages to offline mobile phones from Whispurr.com and from the email address they registered with. Whispurr will also implement a networking feature whereby users create their own networks of friends for different networks. Whispurr will allow members to hide networks from each other which will provide added privacy to people and their information.

The priority of Whispurr development is to work on time-saving measures for its users to connect online & offline worlds.

History

Whispurr is a social network of Koelo LTD. developed by Chief Technology Officer Stefano Rocco with Hakan Guzelgoz as CEO and Conor Devine as Online Marketing Manager.

The word Whispurr is a play on the word whisper coined by Vivienne Condell-Insalaco (Ireland).

Demographics

At the time of this article (26 March 2010) Whispurr members were primarily from Ireland, Turkey and Indonesia. The official launch of Whispurr will take place at 12 March in Dublin, Ireland.

Technology & Expansion

Whispurr is built on Google's App Engine and they will consider inviting developers in June 2010. Whispurr aims to have a multi-lingual interface by September 2010.
