The Wetterstein Formation is a geologic formation in the Northern Calcareous Alps and Drau Range of the Eastern Alps, in Austria and Bavarian Germany, Central Europe.

Contents

Geology

It was formed in the Canarian age of the Late Triassic epoch in the Triassic period, during the Mesozoic Era.

Deeper burial cementation shows a succession with two types of saddle dolomite and three types of blocky calcite. It contains Wetterstein Limestone elements.

Fossils

The formation preserves fossils dating back to the Lower Ladinian−Upper Canarian ages of the Middle and Late Triassic epochs of the Triassic period.
