The Weston Road Academy (formerly Weston Road High School) is an academy school providing secondary and further education for pupils aged 11–18 of the community in the east side of the market town Stafford and surrounding villages; Great Haywood, Little Haywood, Hopton, Weston and Hixon. It has links to other Stafford District High Schools and Stafford College through a local education collaboration - the Stafford Collegiate - which provides education for pupils aged 16–18.

Contents

On 1 October 2011 The Weston Road Academy became Stafford's first Academy school. As a converter academy, the school is answerable directly to the Department of Education, but maintains strong working links with Staffordshire County Council. Recent years have seen the school become a specialist Mathematics and Computing School.

Activities

The Academy has a range of extracurricular activities such as football, rugby, dance, science club, language clubs, ICT clubs and have produced several outstanding musical productions in recent years. Pupils have also participated in the 'Duke of Edinburgh Award' scheme.

Educational and leisure reward trips are organised throughout the year to theatres, museums, ice rinks etc. Residential visits are also arranged - there is an biennial skiing trip and annual visits to Spain, France and Germany, arranged by the language faculty to improve pupils' foreign language skills.

The Academy and the Local Community

The Academy keeps parents and local schools informed through letters and a half termly newsletter. Parents are invited to be involved in setting achievement targets for their children and survey the Academy at Consultation Evenings.

The Academy also successfully organises charity fundraising for a number of causes chosen by the pupils.

The premises are also used for adult education and community-based sport and leisure.
