The school is part of the Bethesda Chevy Chase High School cluster. Half of the students at the school enter when they are in the seventh grade, as many go to Chevy Chase Elementary and North Chevy Chase Elementary which end in sixth grade, unlike Somerset Elementary School, Rock Creek Forest Elementary, Westbrook Elementary, and Bethesda Elementary which end in fifth grade. The school has a rivalry with the school Thomas W. Pyle Middle School, a nearby middle school. The mascot of the school is the Wildcat (Westland Wildcats). The school is also part of the International Baccalaureate school program.
