Billie Hughes' recording of "Welcome To The Edge" first appeared in the television series "Santa Barbara" connected to the character of Robert Barr. As the drama unfolded "Welcome To The Edge" became a central love theme with performances airing for two years. During this time, the hit Japanese duo "Wink" recorded a version of this song which charted at #1 on the Japanese charts.
Billie Hughes recorded a new version of "Welcome To The Edge" following the arrangement of the Wink recording. This new version became the theme song of the Fuji TV hit television show "Mou Daremo Aisenai." Pony Canyon released "Welcome To The Edge" and the single charted #1, selling 520,000 copies. "Welcome To The Edge" was awarded #1 International Single Of The Year, at the NHK televised Gold Disc Awards. Billie Hughes performed "Welcome To The Edge" live for the telecast in Tokyo, along with MC Hammer who performed "Can't Touch This."
