Plot

St Andrews in Scotland is the scene of several horrible murders. All the victims are people from the Middle East without any legal papers.

Online gamer and distinguished dean at University of St Andrews; Hammond MacLeod finds the body of his current mistress.

Unable to cope with other's suspicion of him, he (helped by young American reporter Willow Owen) runs away to New York City.

In order to clear himself of suspicion, Hammond must delve into the online game (featuring Mesopotamia's darkest ancient history with themes linked to the landscapes of ancient languages as well as to passionate but destructive human relationships) which asks online players to designate the next victim.

Soon, Hammond and Willow are caught up in the game.
