Publication history
The water weird first appeared in the first edition in the original Monster Manual (1977).
The water weird appeared in second edition Advanced Dungeons & Dragons in Monstrous Compendium Volume Two (1989), and is reprinted in the Monstrous Manual (1993) under the "elemental, water kin" heading.
The water weird appeared in third edition Dungeons & Dragons under the "elemental weird" heading in Monster Manual II (2002). Elemental weirds were further detailed in "The Ecology of the Elemental Weird" in Dragon #347 (September 2006), which also described the lesser elemental weirds.
Description
The water weird originates from the elemental place of water, and attacks all living things, feeding on their essences.
