Origin of the name

U L Washington, a former Major League Baseball player for the Kansas City Royals, Montreal Expos, and Pittsburgh Pirates, is an alumnus of Stringtown High School. Cliffton Dickson, another alumnus of Stringtown High School, had true passion for the game of baseball, handing down the knowledge of the game to the next generation and playing in softball tournaments. Cliffton Dickson died in 1984 during open heart surgery. Honoring the two men's dedication to the community of Stringtown and love of the game, Stringtown renamed the ball field after the UL Washington and Cliffton Dickson in 1984. The commemorative plaque is located behind the home plate in front of the press box.

Other events

While primarily a high school baseball field, Washington Dickson Field also hosts Little League Baseball and coeducation softball tournaments.
