Wanyuan (simplified Chinese: 万源; traditional Chinese: 萬源; pinyin: Wànyuán; literally: "ten thousand springs") is a county-level city in the northeast of Sichuan province, People's Republic of China, located near the trisection of Sichuan, Chongqing, and Shaanxi. Shifang is its city seat. Wanyuan has more than 100.000 inhabitants.

Geography

Wanyuan has a monsoon-influenced humid subtropical climate (Köppen Cwa), with cool, damp winters and hot, humid summers; winter temperatures are significantly cooler than in the Sichuan Basin. The monthly 24-hour average temperature ranges from 3.9 °C (39.0 °F) in January to 24.8 °C (76.6 °F) in July and August, the latter figure being comparable to Chengdu, while the annual mean is 14.70 °C (58.5 °F). About two-thirds of the 1,233 mm (48.5 in) of annual precipitation occurs from June to September. With monthly percent possible sunshine ranging from 20% in January and February to 49% in August, the city receives 1,372 hours of bright sunshine annually, with spring sunnier than autumn.
