History
Walther Linis, painter sculptor, restaurantor, illustrator, craftsman, violin maker and writer was born in Denmark, in September 2, 1930. Most of his artistic knowledge in painting is self-taught except for the sculpture. He did his studies and was trained at the Royal Danish Academy of sculpture where he attended for some years. He has done figurative and impressionist painting. He is dedicated to abstract painting, a technique he handles with skill. He lives in a privileged region (Lynby) where the light in summer is usually bright and Walther introduces in his works this special light. He has specialized in Danish motifs inspired by the ancient Vikings. He has a statue that is 4 meters tall and has kept it in his driveway, this statue draws the attention of the passers by. As well as a stone he called "the cornerstone of a thousand years." He made a replica of Odin's Viking god which is 15 centimeters tall copied from the original, found by a neighbor of Lejre (Lyndby) made in silver which measures 7 centimeters. The discovery of this statue, was published broadly in newspapers. The statue made by master Linis is in the Museum of Roskilde, where people can admire it. In 1953 he participated in the show of 54 sculptures displayed in the jury of artists in the building "Back Frais Building" in Copenhagen.
Ea Movang, is a Danish painter and she has presented some exhibitions with Walther Linis. Among others some exhibitions in Roskilde and abroad. Some of Walther's sculptures can be seen exhibited in Copenhagen, Roskilde and Lyndby. In the Museum of Roskilde is a statue made by Master Linis exhibited of Odin of Lejre.
Early years
He lives in his house in Lyndby (Denmark) since 1970 after a varied life. His mother moved to this small town on the largest Danish island of Zealand in 1946, where she tended the house of a butcher. Walther had six siblings, four girls and two boys as he did not live with them, he came to visit the family often. They lived in a farmhouse.
He was trained as a carver, however this profession was dying out because modern times brought new designs in furniture. Thus there was no more need for carved works (nowadays they are very expensive). But his true vocations were always sculpture and painting. Later on, he was admitted at the National Art Academy in Copenhagen. Also he became a porcelain painter at one of the most famous factories in Copenhagen, which later merged as the Royal Copenhagen Porcelain Manufacturer.
Eventually with his adventurous spirit, he got the offer to come out to sail all around the world for over a year and off he went. He states that this trip opened his eyes to more art expressions in the different countries he visited. It was a sudden upheaval, but an eventful time. He bought a film projector and used all his spare time to get some real good photos. They started in France and sailed through the Suez Canal to Arabia where they unloaded oil and continued over the Pacific shoreline to San Diego in California and on into the Panama Canal to the Gulf island of Aruba, waterless island but they could get oil board and then took 12 trips between many U.S. cities in the east shore, the boat went several times to the port of Tampico in Mexico from 1957–58. However he never went to Mexico's capital, but the country and its friendly people impressed him very much, he has never forgotten them. He lost his wife and has two children: a man and a woman. He met Mexican Sara Hazan, who is a painter and represents him in Mexico City and some cities in the USA.
