Walter Greene


Walter S. Greene (May 28, 1834 - November 15, 1891) was an American businessman and politician.

Born in Salisbury, New York, in Herkimer County, New York, Greene moved with his parents to Milford, Wisconsin Territory, in 1847. He went to the University of Wisconsin and Beloit College. Greene lived in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin in 1853 and 1654 and was a merchant. He then moved back to Milford, Wisconsin and ran a milling business with his father. In 1883, he moved to Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin and served as mayor in 1887. He also served on the town board and the Jefferson County, Wisconsin Board of Supervisors. He also served as Jefferson County Treasurer. In 1862, Greene served in the Wisconsin State Assembly as a Democrat. In 1873 and 1874 and again in 1887 to 1891, Greene served in the Wisconsin State Senate. He died in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin while still in the Wisconsin Senate.
