Waltair (or Visakhapatnam) railway division is one of the three divisions of East Coast Railway Zone (ECoR) of the Indian Railways. It covers the northern districts of Andhra Pradesh, parts of Chhattisgarh, Orissa. The headquarters of the Waltair Railway Division are located at Visakhapatnam. It is the highest revenue generator for the zone.

Loco sheds
The Diesel Loco Shed at Visakhapatnam, is the largest diesel shed in Indian Railways, with a capacity to accommodate 234 Diesel Locomotives. While, the Electric Loco Shed is currently holding 231 Electric locomotives.
It holds WDM-2 – 57, WDS-6 – 10, WDG-3A – 96 alongside 3 rail busses.
While, the Electric Loco Shed can accommodate 198 locomotives which includes WAG-5 – 93, WAM-4 – 10, WAG-7 – 28, WAP-4 – 21,WAP-7 – 5, WAG-5P – 4, WAG-6 – 11, WAG-9H – 23, WAG5TAOCHI – 8.
Performance and earnings
Waltair division was awarded efficiency shields in eight categories. Vizianagaram and Tilaru was awarded best major and minor clean stations. During the 2014–15 financial year, the division has recorded its highest of ₹6,653.31 crore (US$990 million). It includes the majority share of ₹6,159.73 crore (US$920 million) from freight transport itself. The division had transported 54.86 million tonnes of load and 33.72 million passengers. The passengers earnings were ₹433.15 crore (US$64 million)
During 2012–13, freight revenue earnings of Waltair railway division were ₹5,642 crore (US$840 million). For the same period, the passenger traffic was 32.94 million and passenger earnings were ₹312.96 crore (US$47 million) respectively. Due to industrialization in the modern era, the division equally serves the transportation needs of the port city of Visakhapatnam. The division serves major public sectors such as Visakhapatnam Port Trust, RINL, IOC, BPCL, HPCL etc.
