Waiting for Goddard is the title of the only album released by Steve Goddard. Backed by some of the top musicians in the Christian music business of the era, Goddard's strong melodies and provocative lyrics were a big hit. Nevertheless, his comments about the attitude displayed by members of the Church of England were controversial. Goddard chose to limit his musical activities and concentrate on other activities. He served for several years as editor of the evangelical youth magazine Buzz before beginning a new career as a public relations consultant. In this last capacity his assignments have included promoting the Christian Resources Exhibition and the Library and Information Show.

Steve was also one of the editors of the satirical Christian magazine "Ship of Fools", which was published for ten issues in the late 1970s and early 1980s. The magazine was re-launched as a web magazine in 1998 and has since become one of Britain's most popular Christian web sites.

Steve Goddard was born in Croydon, and learned to play the piano from the age of three. In his early teens he also took up the guitar. He studied in London and Oxford and gained a theology degree, and then moved to St Helens, Lancashire where he worked with 'Youth For Christ'.

A desire to develop his creative instincts saw Steve take his songs on the road with Simon Jenkins, a ragtime pianist. The duo played in numerous schools, colleges and universities throughout Britain and Europe.

Becoming a solo performer Steve recorded his solo album with Paul Field of Nutshell at the helm. The lyrics were described as "refreshingly honest", if a little uncomfortable to hear. His criticism of the established Church was said to come from "a standpoint of deep commitment to Christ" (sleeve notes from the LP, by an anonymous writer).
