WNAC-DT2 is the MyNetworkTV-affiliated second digital subchannel of Fox affiliate WNAC-TV for the state of Rhode Island and Bristol County, Massachusetts, United States. It is owned by Super Towers, Inc. and operated through a local marketing agreement (LMA) by Nexstar Media Group which owns sister station WPRI-TV. Although studios are based on Catamore Boulevard in East Providence, master control and some traffic responsibilities are based out of hub facilities at NBC affiliate WWLP in Chicopee, Massachusetts.

Contents

Over-the-air, WNAC-DT2 broadcasts a 16:9 widescreen standard definition digital signal on VHF channel 12.2 (or virtual channel 64.2 via PSIP) from a transmitter on Homestead Avenue in Rehoboth, Massachusetts. WNAC-DT2 can also be seen on Verizon FiOS channel 14, Cox channel 21, and Comcast Xfinity digital channel 292. The channel is available in full high definition (but this is cable-only) and is carried on Verizon FiOS digital channel 514, Comcast digital channel 820, and Cox digital channel 1015.

Development

This second subchannel of WNAC first became active as a 24-hour local weather channel called Eyewitness News Pinpoint Weather Station, which also aired on Cox digital channel 125 in the area. However, this was made cable-only in 2007 due to new FCC regulations for educational programming. Overnight during weekends when the main channels of WNAC and WPRI ended their broadcast day, they simulcasted this 24-hour weather channel. After the loss of that service, WNAC-DT2 became a live non-audio feed of WPRI's weather radar "Pinpoint Doppler 12" which was based at the off-air transmitter site in Rehoboth.

On October 1, 2009, this station became the market's MyNetworkTV affiliate after the service was moved from the main WNAC feed. Before this change, the main channel had aired the network in a secondary manner delaying weeknight prime time programming from 11:30 to 1:30 in the morning and Saturday prime time programming until early Sunday mornings from 12:30 to 2:30. In 2011, WNAC-DT2 televised local college basketball games on Wednesdays under the banner "Game Night".

Due to the 2012 World Series preempting prime time news normally seen on the main WNAC channel, this second digital subchannel aired live newscasts featuring continuing coverage of Hurricane Sandy. The station now airs newscasts from both WNAC and WPRI when sports or other special network programming preempts them. This is usually the case on Saturdays at 6 and 10 p.m. as well as Sundays at 6:30 p.m. There is no separate "MyRITV" branding or logo seen during these live broadcasts but rather features the unified Eyewitness News title as seen on WNAC and WPRI.

Programming

Syndicated programming on WNAC-DT2 includes The Wendy Williams Show, Family Feud, Divorce Court, Judge Alex, and 'Til Death among others. From 4 until 5:30 a.m. on weekend mornings, this station simulcasts programming with the main WNAC channel.
