WMG Academy for Young Engineers is a University Technical College in the Canley area of Coventry which opened in 2014. The school is on the site of The Westwood Academy.
Contents
With a 'Business-like, Business-led' ethos, the academy is built around core values of knowledge, skills and employability. The unique curriculum is taught through interactive learning in the schools £13.5 Million resources, including a state-of-the-art Engineering Hall containing tools and machines like CNC Routers, Plasma Cutters, Lathes and Milling Machines as well as an inclusive welding centre.
Trust
The WMG Academy trust has two academies. The first opened in Coventry in September 2014, and the second at Solihull in September 2016. The trust is led by a Trust Board, chaired by former CEO of Rover and RM John Leighfield, and by an executive leadership team, consisting of Mrs Kate Tague (Executive Principal), Mr Matthew Brady (Associate Principal Coventry) and Mr Stewart Tait (Associate Principal Solihull).
Sponsors
The UTC sponsors include the Warwick Manufacturing Group at the University of Warwick, and the major local employer Jaguar Land Rover. Also included are other local firms, such as OLEO Savery and Automotive Insulations as well as other national brands, for example Bosch and National Grid.
