WHQR (91.3 FM) is the National Public Radio member station for Wilmington, North Carolina. The station is currently owned by Friends of Public Radio, Inc., a community group. It airs a mix of NPR news and talk, jazz and adult album alternative music.

Contents

The station signed on in 1984, bringing NPR programming to the last area of North Carolina without even a grade B signal.

WHQR also aired on 98.9 FM in Myrtle Beach starting July 11, 2012. The station began the application process in 2003 but did not have the money for years. The translator shares a tower with Time Warner Cable.

On September 16, 2014 the classical music moved from WHQR's main signal to WHQR's HD2 subchannel and FM translator W243CX 96.7 FM Rose Hill, branded as "Classical HQR".

On March 11, 2016 WHQR acquired translator W224CX 92.7 FM Wilmington from Conner Media to air its Classical HQR format. On April 23, 2016, the birthday of Shakespeare and the day after the station's 32nd anniversary, WHQR added W272CV 102.3 FM in Myrtle Beach for the classical format.
