Vuosaari metro station helsinki

Vuosaari (Finnish) or Nordsjö (Swedish) is a ground-level station on the southern branch (Itäkeskus - Vuosaari) of the Helsinki Metro. It serves the district of Vuosaari in East Helsinki, and is the terminus of the branch.

Contents

The station was opened on 31 August 1998, making it one of the newest stations on the Helsinki Metro. It was designed by the architect bureau Esa Piironen Oy. It is located 1.2 kilometres from the Rastila metro station. The terminus at the other end, Ruoholahti metro station, is 16 kilometres away.

In 2011 a 1.4 km long service rail was created from the end of the Vuosaari branch to the Vuosaari Harbour. The service rail connects the metro track into the main railway network and may replace the current, much longer service rail that runs through the district of Viikki. The new service rail will be used to move heavy maintenance and construction machinery and materials, including those related to the Länsimetro project.

A trial run with platform screen doors is currently being conducted. The doors, which are a part of the metro automation project, were built over a year ago but their introduction has been delayed due to technical and safety related testings.

Platform doors are being installed at vuosaari metro station 25 8 2010
