Career

Born in Pleven, Goranov graduated from the Mathematics High School "Geo Milev" in the city. He also earned a Master's in accounting and control from the "Dimitar Apostolov Tsenov" academy in Svishtov.

On 7 November 2014, Goranov assumed his duties as Minister of Finance of Bulgaria, succeeding Rumen Porozhanov.

Minister Goranov is a close ally of media mogul Delyan Peevski and is seen as a key channel of influence in the government. In 2012, photos of the two discussing government projects surfaced and led to calls for Goranov's ouster as deputy minister.
