Vitebsk state technological university

Vitebsk State Technological University (VSTU) is an entire academic-scientific-production complex, which trains specialists with higher education for the light industry and other branches of national economy, prepares highly qualified scientific personnel, provides qualification improvement and employees retraining in different spheres, implements fundamental and applied scientific research on broad aspects, manufactures light industry products, develops international cooperation with bodies of education and industry. The University provides the high level of professional training of specialists which is located in Vitebsk, Belarus.

History

By 1960s light industry widely developed in BSSR (now Belarus). Following the Great Patriotic War the new enterprises of sewing, knitted, shoe and other industries were restored and constructed. Belarus was in need of high qualified personnel for light industry. On August 14th, 1959 Council of Ministers of BSSR approved the detailed design of building in Vitebsk of institute of light industry technology.

The Vitebsk institute of technology of light industry was opened on June 25th, 1965 under the Decision of Council of Ministers the Belorussian SSR № 305 from June, 24th, 1965.

On June 25th, 1965 Stepan Evdokimovich Savitsky was appointed the first rector of institute. He was Candidate of Sciences (Chemistry) and had an academic title of senior lecturer (docent) an previously worked as a managing chair of chemistry at the Belorussian institute of a national economy. He was working for 23 years already, had vital energy and he devoted his experience to the institute.

On September 1st, 1965 the first educational building, the first hostel, external communications and subsidiary premises were opened. The first students started studying five specialities on six chairs of the institute. The plan of enrollment of students gradually increased, new chairs, offices, laboratories were created, new specialities opened, the material base replenished. In February, 1995 the institute has passed accreditation on the status of a university by the criteria confirmed by the Ministry of Education of Belarus, and in 20 April 1995 is transformed to Vitebsk state technological university.

From 1993 to 2016 Valery Stepanovich Bashmetov was the rector of the university. He is a doktor nauk (Technology), has an academic title of professor, the Honored Worker of civil engineering of Belarus, he served as a member of Council of the Republic of Belarus.

Faculties and Chairs

Currently there are seven faculties and 19 chairs in VSTU

Economic faculty

The economic faculty (till 1997 economic-technological) is one of the largest in university.

The faculty structure includes 8 chairs:

Chair of economy;

Chair of management;

Chair of the economic theory and marketing;

Chair of commercial activity;

Chair of mathematics and computer science;

Chair of foreign languages;

Chair of social disciplines and humanities.

At faculty more than 1000 students are trained, 73 academic stuff.

Students have opportunity to receive in the computer classes equipped with modern computes, practical skills of application of information technologies in professional activity.

Graduates of faculty work in economical and finance departments, work and salary departments, in banks, commercial services of the enterprises and firms, tax inspections, the insurance companies, economic laboratories of research and design institutes.

Art and technological faculty

The art and technological faculty is the only one in Republic of Belarus, carrying out training of specialists for the textile industry. It was established in 1971 as engineering and technological, since 1978 — economical and technological, since 1997 — art and technological. 15 candidates of science and 4 doctors of science (Doktor nauk) work at faculty. Among them: 4 professors, 24 associate professors. There are 18 members of the Union of Designers and 7 members of the Union of Artists among teachers of creative disciplines .

The structure of faculty includes 5 chairs:

Chair of technology of knitted production

Training of designers is conducted on the following specialties, the directions and specializations:

volume design;

communicative design;

design of the subject and spatial environment;

fashion and textile design;

Since 2012 the university begins reception and training of specialists with the higher education in "Production of textile materials (in the directions). In the course of training students are distributed on 2 new directions: production of textile materials (technology and management) production of textile materials (technology and design).

The faculty has postgraduate study, doctoral studies and a magistracy in "Technology and preprocessing of textile materials and raw materials".

Mekhaniko-tekhnologichesky faculty

The Mekhaniko-tekhnologichesky faculty is one of leaders at university. It is created in August, 1969. More than 600 students are trained at this faculty. Chairs:

At faculty training of specialists on 5 specialties is conducted: technology of mechanical engineering (qualification engineer); processing equipment of machine-building production (qualification engineer); cars and devices of textile, light industry and consumer services (qualification mechanical engineer); automation of technological processes and productions (qualification automation engineer); technology of the equipment of highly effective processes of processing (qualification mechanical engineer).

Design-technology faculty

The design-technology faculty is organized in June, 1987 as a result of merge of two faculties: "Sewing production" and "Shoe production". The structure of faculty includes 6 chairs:

At faculty training of specialists on 4 specialties is conducted: designing and technology of clothes; designing and technology of products from skin; merchandizing and examination of goods; metrology, standardization and certification (light industry).

Correspondence faculty

The correspondence faculty [30] is organized in 1965. The correspondence faculty Timofeev Anatoly Mikhaylovich, Candidate of Technical Sciences, the associate professor directs. At faculty prepares on the job experts for the light and textile industry, mechanical engineering and other branches of a national economy:

cars and offices of the light, textile industry and consumer services (qualification — the mechanical engineer);

automation of technological processes and productions (qualification — the automation engineer);

technology of a yarn, fabrics, jersey and nonwoven fabrics (qualification — the process engineer).

Faculty of pre-university preparation and career guidance

The faculty of pre-university preparation and career guidance prepares entrants for receipt in university in the following directions: preparatory office (day, correspondence forms of education);

Courses:

the evening;

for preparation for the centralized testing;

two-week, for entrants before entrance examinations.

Professional development and retraining of personnel faculty

The faculty of professional development and retraining of personnel is created at university in 1989. At faculty there pass retraining more than 200 listeners, over 300 people annually increase the qualification, about 1300 students get higher education.

Second ULK UO "VGTU" starting complex: economics department, including dean's office, economy chair, chair of commercial activity, management chair, chair of the economic theory and marketing, chair of engineering graphics, informatics chair, including 2 computer halls. FPK and personal computer dean's office, center of information technologies, including publishing department, 4 computer halls, reading room of economic sciences. VGTU scientific and technological park

The republican innovative unitary enterprise "Scientific and Technological Park of Vitebsk State Technological University" [33] began the work on August 24, 2010. In structure of science and technology park are available – own design office, research laboratory, experimental pilot production and economical sector.

Experimental and skilled enterprise At the experimental and skilled enterprise the new technologies developed in VGTU take root.

Museum VGTU

The museum of history of university settles down in the educational and laboratory case No. 4. The exposition of a museum tells about history of creation of university, about the scientists working here in different years, about modern activity of university. At stands the materials devoted to the first teachers, development of high school science, amateur performances are presented, to sports, student's construction movement. The information stand with rotary modules represents materials about activity of faculties and university chairs.

VGTU shop

On the basis of the order of the rector and the decision of executive committee of administration of Oktyabrsky district No. 200 of 19.04.2006 "VGTU Shop" it is created is the isolated structural division of Establishment of education "Vitebsk state technological university". "VGTU Shop" is the main objectives of SMALLPOX satisfaction of demand of the population in products of the enterprises of light industry, other consumer goods. It is closed in the fall of 2008.

VGTU fashion house

The student's Fashion house was founded in 2006 by the VGTU initiative group of KTF chair. The director of Student's Fashion house is Himdiat Nadezhda Anatolyevna, the member of the Belarusian Union of Designers. Collections are created by all wishing students. The main idea of Fashion house is creation of models which will carry. All created collections can be seen on displays which will be organized at university.

VGTU sport center

The student's sports complex includes: pool, fitness studio, gym.

VGTU sanatorium dispensary

At Vitebsk the state technological university the student's sanatorium dispensary on 50 places is open. The student's sanatorium dispensary was open in 1973 on the basis of a hostel No. 2 and is the only improving establishment among technical educational institutions of Vitebsk and Vitebsk area. In February, 2005 the license for the right of medical activity was obtained, and in April, 2006 the dispensary passed a certifying commission in Minsk on the status "Student's sanatorium dispensary". In sanatorium dispensary are equipped:

therapeutic office;

procedural office;

physiotherapeutic office;

mud baths.

Offices are equipped with modern medical devices and the equipment, necessary medicines.

Cultural life of VGTU

At university the student's club works. The thematic evenings, interesting meetings, concerts of amateur performances are popular. Pride of university — national choreographic Vitebchanka ensemble, vocal studio. Annually at university the Gold Melody of Fall festival in which collectives of amateur performances of all faculties participate is held. On the basis of university the Vitebsk regional league of MOO "Belarusian KVN" is created, Vitebsk regional interuniversity competition of grace and artistic skill "the Queen Spring" is held. And also annually in Vitebsk the state technological university the International scientific conference is held.
