Vineet Kumar (born 22 February 1957) is an Indian film actor. The veteran actor from National School of Drama, is known for his works in Hindi, English and Telugu language films and Television. He is best known for his works in films such as Masaan, Drohkaal, Kachche Dhaage, Aks, Yeh Dil, Soch and Shool. His Hollywood assignments include, Return to Rajapur with Lynn Collins; Bhopal: A Prayer for Rain with Martin Sheen and Mischa Barton. He has also appeared in a number of Telugu, Tamil and Bhojpuri films. He received critical acclaim for his work in Telugu film Vikramarkudu.

Early life

Vineet was born in Patna, Bihar to Saheb Lal Srivastava and Prabha Srivastava. He did his schooling from Patna Collegiate School. He completed his graduation from Bihar National College, Patna. He was very active in theatre during his college days in Patna. He went on to join the Indian Peoples' Theatre Association (IPTA), Patna, in 1973. After 14 years of stage work and participating in national politics during the Jayaprakash Narayan Movement, he moved to Delhi to join the National School of Drama where he completed his Masters & Fellowship in Dramatic Arts.
Personal life

Vineet Kumar currently lives in Mumbai and is married to Manoranjan Dhaliwal who teaches ESL at Princess Noura University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He loves photography and is an amateur photographer as well. He is younger brother of Bihar Cadre IPS officer Sunit Kumar.
Career

He has appeared in a number of Hindi films. These include Drohkaal, Kachche Dhaage, Aks, Yeh Dil, Soch and Shool. Apart from Bollywood movies he has also worked on Hollywood assignments such as Return to Rajapur with Lynn Collins; Bhopal: A Prayer for Rain with Martin Sheen and Mischa Barton. He has also appeared in a number of Telugu, Tamil and Bhojpuri movies. He received critical acclaim for his work in Telugu version of Rowdy Rathore – Vikramarkudu.
He has worked with veteran directors like Govind Nihalani, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, Prakash Jha and Ram Gopal Varma, among others. Apart from being a well known face on Indian Television, Vineet is well respected by actors and directors of enviable stature.
He received positive reviews for his work in Masaan and has been termed 'Brilliant' for his role as a professional cremator. Masaan was screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival winning two awards.
Awards, honours and recognition
Vineet won the Best Actor in Negative Role (Jury) award for Jaana Na Dil Se Door at the 16th Indian Television Academy Awards (ITA) in 2016.
