Contents

Vindon Healthcare plc was acquired by Source BioScience plc in September 2013 and all operations continue as part of the Stability and Bio Storage division within the Source BioScience group.

History

Vindon Scientific was established in 1967 manufacturing a product range encompassing refrigeration units, simple laboratory ovens, microbiological incubators and water baths. The product range was expanded in the late 1980s to include environmental chambers and rooms (for which Vindon remained as one of the market leading manufacturers) and in 1999 Vindon started offering stability storage services from its own premises in Oldham.

The company was acquired by Zeus Capital in 2004 and subsequently by Didsbury Progress plc in February 2005. On 15 March 2005 Didsbury Progress plc changed its name to Vindon Healthcare plc.

In April 2005, the company was admitted to the Alternative Investment Market (AIM).

In 2007, Vindon opened its first overseas stability storage facility in Tramore, County Waterford. It also commenced storage of biological and tissue material at ultra-low temperatures at its UK facility and established operational capability in the United States of America.

In August 2008 the company moved into its new, 29,000 sq ft (2,700 m2) purpose built UK premises on Kingsway Business Park, Rochdale, Greater Manchester.

2009 saw Vindon apply its expertise and experience to cryogenic storage services with the opening of the Vindon Cryobank. This facility provided storage for the preservation of stem cells, cord stem cells, DNA and bone marrow at temperatures ranging from -150 °C down to -196 °C.

Vindon's expertise in the storage of products in tightly controlled temperature and humidity environments was then applied to the heritage market providing storage services to the British Library of Film Archives.

In 2010, Vindon opened its first stability storage facility in the USA in Atlanta, Georgia. A second facility was opened in Santa Fe Springs, California in July 2013. In September 2013, Vindon was acquired by the international genetic services and diagnostics business Source BioScience plc.

Licensing

Vindon holds a Human Tissue Authority licence for the storage, distribution and import/export of human cells and tissue.
