While playing for the Espoo Blues, he led the SM-liiga in assists (32) by a defenseman in the 2009–10 season.
On 18 November 2011, Lajunen left Espoo during the final year of his contract to join Metallurg Magnitogorsk in the KHL.
On May 24 2017 Lajunen signed a 1-year contract with HC Spartak Moscow from KHL.
