It was first introduced as Vijayawada-Vizianagaram Passenger. Later in Rail budget 1999-2000, it was extended to Rayagada.
Coaches

Loco
It is hauled by WAG-7 Electric loco of Vijayawada loco shed from Vijayawada to Visakhapatnam. It is hauled WDM-3A Diesel loco of Visakhapatnam loco shed from Visakhapatnam to Rayagada.
