History
Vigilant was founded in February 1999 by Adi Pinhas (who later formed Superfish) and Ronen Saggir. The company was formed to develop surveillance products based on digital video, which would convert analogue video into a digital format, allowing the user to compress it, store it and retrieve the images in electronic format. Vigilant was the first company to perform video compression in DVD quality over DSP (Digital Signal Processor).
The founders and a group of private investors provided seed capital for the company which initially (during 1999 and 2000) focused on research and development. Vigilant made its first sale in late 2000. It then worked with Pelco, a US-based video security equipment company, on a range of projects.
Vigilant raised further capital in two rounds in 2000 and in 2002. The company also received a US $2.1 million grant from the Chief Scientist Fund in Israel to assist with research and development costs.
In December 2005 the company raised £10 million and listed on the London Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol VGT.
Since November 2008, Vigilant Technology is a wholly owned subsidiary of BATM Advanced Communications.
