Videt Carmichael was born on February 26, 1950 in Meridian, Mississippi. He graduated from Mississippi State University.

Career

Carmichael was a teacher prior to running for office. He has served as a Republican member of the Mississippi State Senate since 2000. In 2015, he proposed a bill to prevent the Common Core State Standards Initiative from becoming the law of the land in Mississippi.

Personal life

Carmichael is married to Donna Smith. They have two children. He is a Baptist. In 2014, he was hospitalized after he fell in his apartment in Jackson, Mississippi.
