Professor Veronica van Heyningen CBE FRS FMedSci (née Daniel, born 12 November 1946) is a British geneticist who specialises in the etiology of anophthalmia. She was head of medical genetics at the MRC Human Genetics Unit in Edinburgh and the president of The Genetics Society.

Education

van Heyningen studied Natural Sciences (genetics) at the University of Cambridge, and at Northwestern University. She went to study for a DPhil at the University of Oxford in early gene mapping studies using somatic cell hybrids, with Walter Bodmer.

Awards and honours

She was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2010 Birthday Honours.
