Veltech Dr.RR & Dr.SR University (Vel Tech Rangarajan Dr. Sagunthala R&D Institute of Science and Technology, commonly referred to as Vel Tech University), is an Indian institute of higher education located in Avadi , Chennai. It was founded in 1997 by R. Rangarajan and Sagunthala Rangarajan. The university offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes in engineering and technology in addition to a Master of Business Administration.

History
Vel Tech was initially constituted in 1997 as an engineering college affiliated to the University of Madras, with courses in computer science & engineering, electronics & communication engineering and electrical & electronics engineering. From 2001 the college was affiliated to Anna University. The college was recognised as a deemed university in 2008.
Accreditation
In November 2014 the university received Tier I accreditation from the National Board of Accreditation for its aeronautical and mechanical engineering undergraduate programs.
In December 2015 the university was accredited with an "A" grade (the highest grade) by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council.
Rankings
The (Times Higher Education), which released its Asia University Rankings 2017 on 15 March 2017, listed 33 Indian universities in the top 300. Among the private universities in India, Veltech Dr.RR & Dr.SR University got the highest rank and made it to the top 50 in Asia. Three indian institutes made it to the top 50 with Bengaluru’s Indian Institute of Science (IISc) at 27, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay was ranked 42 and Chennai-based private institute Veltech University was 43rd in the top 50.

2016 Rankings
Times of India ranked Veltech Dr. RR & Dr. SR University as the 2nd best in Chennai, 11th best in South India and 23rd in India among the top private Institutions.
Career 360 ranked Veltech Dr. RR & Dr. SR University 19th under AAA+ category. Career 360 also ranked us 3rd best among the top 30 best Universities under private ownership in India.
Academics
The University offers academic programs in Engineering and technology, Science and Management Studies. This university offers 28Undergraduate, 45 Postgraduate (in Academic Stream) and 11 Postgraduate (in Industry Stream) Programmes in Engineering and Technology and in Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Academic and Industry Streams with various specializations. The University also offers Doctorate programmes under all the departments. All programme follow Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) with 6 degree choices. Course Choice within the programme, Semester choice, faculty choice, inter programme/department / school level course choice, inter-institute level course choice and MOOC course choice.
Academic Activities
The University has adapted the new pedagogical process called “Conceive-Design-Implement-Operate” (CDIO) approach. CDIO imbibed syllabus helps the students to acquire professional, personal and inter-personal skills systematically.
Location
Vel Tech University has a campus of about 53 acres. The Campus is located on the Outer Ring Road in West Chennai, Avadi. The nearest airport is Chennai and the nearest railway station is Chennai Central. All suburban trains stops at Avadi junction which is about 15 to 20 minutes drive away from the campus. The campus is accessible by road from Chennai, Bengaluru and Andhra Pradesh.
