Authorities had been called to her house to conduct a welfare check, and discovered Marquez to be having a seizure and also suffering from mental health issues.
After 90 minutes of conversation with the authorities, including intervention from a Los Angeles County Mental Health worker, she armed herself with what appeared to be a pistol and pointed it at police, who opened fire. It was later discovered to be a BB gun
