Van Council is an organization that assists local Van Clubs (Van Enthusiasts) with advertisement of vanning events, public persona, fund raising and in general promotes the vanning lifestyle. Once a year in February an international meeting for Van Councils is held, this meeting is dubbed the "Council of Councils" meeting and is held at various locations throughout the United States. The 1st such meeting was held in 1978 by the Florida Van Council in Tallahassee Florida. Van Enthusiasts are humans that immensely enjoy traveling in, camping in and customizing VANs (the style of automobile), these Enthusiasts were recognized in the 1970s with a shag carpet infused custom room on wheels, many of today's (2016) vans are worth in excess of $45,000 yet many "vanners" still drive a well taken care of plan old van that typically looks like it was recently purchased off of the 1979 showroom floor. Van Council is the owner of Van Michael Salons Atlanta. In 1984, Van and his brother Michael partnered and together launched the first Van Michael Salon, a full-service Aveda Concept Salon in Atlanta, Georgia. The first addition was the New Talents Salon, which is a place where clients can come and get a service but at a lower cost. Van Michael and New Talents salons are now found in seven locations in Georgia. In 2001 Van partnered with a group of salon investors to franchise Van Council branded salons in Japan.
