As of the 2014-15 school year, the school had an enrollment of 1,031 students and 69.1 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 14.9:1. There were 272 students (26.4% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 66 (6.4% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch.

The Eagle
The Video Tech Club at Valley Stream Central High School produces a news and entertainment show every monday called "The Eagle." It contains information on school events, upcoming sports news, and skits in the form of the segment "The Central Show." The episodes range from 5 to 15 minutes in length and has been available on YouTube since late 2014, in addition to being played on the school wide network. It has transitioned from its early years as a medium strictly for school news to putting a big focus on humor and entertainment.
