Valeriy Ivanovich Potapenko (Вале'рий Ива'нович Пота'пенко) (born 16 June 1963) is a Ukrainian screenwriter and film producer. He is the general manager of The Production Center "V. I. P. ZONE" (1999–current).

Biography

Valeriy Potapenko was born on June 16, 1963 in Kharkov. He graduated from the Kharkiv Automobile and Highway Institute in 1985. From 1988 - 1990 he was the platoon commander of the army 53043 aircraft in the Northern fleet, then became the company commander of military unit 9713 of the KGB after the collapse of the Soviet Union from 1991 to 1993, holding the rank of Captain of the Guards as of 1992 and then the Special status of Police Captain in 1993. Potapenko became the company commander of militia in Kharkov and head of the Kharkiv district 1993 and remained in that position until 1997.

After being dismissed from the Interior Administration, he accepted the offer of Andrew Gunchenko to serve as Vice President of Joint Stock Company "Telenedelya media," where he continued until 1999. There he was author and producer of the first nationwide TV Festival "Golden Era" ( 1997–1999 ), created and was general manager of the Ukrainian Association of Regional Television and Radio (UARTR) ( 1998–1999 ), and came up with the idea for the regional Ukrainian electronic media contest, "Gold Khvylya" ( 1998–1999 ). He initiated the "Golden Lyre" award to the best music producer in Ukraine, which in 1999 went to the producer of the group "VIA Gra" Dmitry Kostyuk. At the end of 1999, due to disagreements with a partner, the festival and competitive projects ended.

Among Potapenko's other accomplishments during this time: He was winner in the category "Best Russian language countries of the CIS" III Festival of regional companies, "All Russia" ( 1998 ), was a member of the Organizing Committee of the Festival ( 1999–2000 ), and was a Member of the Organizing Committee of the Interstate III Television Festival on "The rule of law and society" ( 2001 ).

On November 17, 1999 he established in Kharkiv Production Center "VIP Zone." The first independent project was the law enforcement-themed TV and radio contest, "Golden George" ( 1999–present), an annual international competition of films and radio programs on legal and law enforcement. The journal "Teleradiocourier" recognized "Golden George" for professional TV competition in 2000, its first year.

In the autumn of 2000, Potapenko started developed and wrote the script for "ATC: The Course of a Young Soldier." In 2002 he co-producer a 6-part film of the same name and continued on with "ATC-2: In the Power." He also produced a compilation film adaptation, "Higher measure."

Potapenko now lives and works in Kiev where he is a Board Member of the Association "Guild of video recordings and soundtracks" and the chairman of the Guild of video recordings. He is the Head of the Representative Office in Ukraine and a member of the International Jury of the St. Petersburg International Film Festival, "HOPE".

Potapenko is a member of the current activities of the Public Collegium of the State Tax Administration of Ukraine. He also serves as Chairman of the Committee on Culture, Information Policy and International Cooperation of the Public Council under the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

He was awarded numerous departmental awards, certificates, and appreciations by law enforcement and human rights organizations of Ukraine, Russia and other countries.
