It is located about 35 Km from downtown Hamilton. You reach there by traveling north on highway 6 and then west on highway 97. Valens Lake is a water reservoir managed by the Hamilton Conservation Authority and offers facilities for camping, hiking, swimming, boating and fishing. It was stocked with fish before, but now it has a sustained natural fish population that has among others, carp, catfish, small and largemouth bass, pike, perch, an assorted varieties of pan fish and the odd turtles.

There is a dam to control the water flow from the basin and water level may fluctuate during the year.

Adventure farms

Valens is home to many area farms that engage in adventure farming. The first-in-class being Yee-Haw Farm - a unique farm-type - but it is now defunct. Other farms, honeybee, Holstein, Angus, horse, and heritage and digital homesteads have formed collectives and co-operatives to promote this area as an education resource to the entire Southern Ontario region.

Bird watching

There is an abundance of birds in the area due to climate and terrain, which provides for ample opportunities for birders, and the green terrain is a natural landscape for women to learn social photography and hunting.

Crown lands hunting

During hunting season, the sound of gunfire can be heard echoing throughout the moraines, bouncing off the plethora of stones, rocks and boulders deep in the heart of crown lands, which require sturdy shoes and all-day supplies (i.e. first-aid kit, rations, water) to explore from the nearest city airport - John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport.
